Sigma Chi Expansion to London!

The London England Alumni Chapter has some thrilling news, and we invite you to join us as we make Sigma Chi history on a scale not seen in a century.

Sigma Chi became an International Fraternity in 1922 with the founding of the Beta Omega Chapter in Toronto, Canada. The Fraternity thrives throughout Canada, with ten active undergraduate chapters, seven alumni chapters and one associate chapter in Calgary at Mount Royal University.

Being an international fraternity spanning two countries is fantastic, and after 102 years in Canada, it is time for us to Expect More.

The New Chapter Development Committee (NCDC) has given the green light for our alumni chapter to explore the possibility of expanding to London, England! This groundbreaking step will make Sigma Chi one of the world's only intercontinental collegiate Greek-letter fraternities, a testament to our enduring values and ambition spanning over 150 years.

Our initial focus is to form an interest group of high-quality potential new members at Imperial College of London, King's College of London, the London School of Economics, and University College London to begin our efforts on this historic expansion. We have assembled a dedicated nine-member Chapter Advisory Board (CAB) to support the group. The CAB held its inaugural meeting on Jan. 9, 2024, setting the stage for an exciting journey ahead.

Now, we need your help! We are reaching out to Sigma Chi alumni all over the world to assist us in identifying the following:

  • Sigma Chi Legacies: If you know of any Sigma Chi legacies attending a university in London — we would love to connect with them.

  • Alumni Earning Master's Degrees: We are also interested in identifying alumni returning to school for a master's degree at a university in London.

  • Other Potential Members: Anyone you know through your network who is studying or planning to study in London and has the potential to live up to the Jordan Standard.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to benefit from the personal growth, leadership development and brotherhood that Sigma Chi offers.

Your assistance in spreading the word among your alumni chapter members would be invaluable in establishing a robust Sigma Chi presence in London, which will help us to recruit local undergraduates. The global perspective gained by our undergraduates and alumni from interacting with more European members will further enrich the Sigma Chi experience for everyone involved.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if there's anyone you think we should connect with directly. We look forward to your support in making Sigma Chi's mark on the European stage!

We will also establish a fundraising campaign to pay for initial recruitment marketing costs and cover Sigma Chi International Fraternity Headquarters fees associated with submitting and accepting a declaration of intent. Seán O’Dowd (sodowd@silvercrestgroup.com) will lead this effort. Please contact him if you’re interested in supporting the fundraising effort.
